Outdoor Concerts: Fun for the Entire Family

There is something about warm summer nights, great music, and kids thatseems to go together. Many southern Illinois communities offer FREE public concerts offering families a wonderful opportunity to spend time together and enjoy a wide array of music. Concert goers are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. 
Some of the  communities sponsoring  summer concerts in the Park include:

Carbondale
-  A long tradition in the community, Sunset Concerts are held every Thursday from 7-9. A list of the scheduled performers  and concert locations is listed below.

July 13: Cha Wa, Zydeco, at Shryock
July 20: Ivas John and local legends, blues, at Turley
July 27: Taj Weekes and Adowa, socially conscious reggae, at Shryock Attendees are reminded that they may bring their own beverages, but in single-serve containers only, and no glass bottles are allowed. Organizers also ask that there are no pets, no smoking and no solicitation.

Duquoin- Concerts are held every Wednesday  at Keyes Park throughout the month of July
The events are to be alcohol free and family oriented.  
They include
Tuesday July 12th 2016- 7 to 9- Them Two- https://facebook.com/ThemTwoBand
Tuesday July 19th 2016- 7 to 9 Jennifer Thompson 
Tuesday July 26th 2016- 7 to 9. The Swamp Tigers. 
New date added! Tuesday August 2nd- Christian Night. 6 to 9- hosted by local churches.

The community of Sesser kicked off their July concert series with a special event on Saturday July 8th. Community concerts are scheduled every Friday from July 14th through August 4th at the Miner's Memorial Park. 


Murphysboro's Summer Concerts are scheduled to begin in August. The Sunset Concerts will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for five Thursdays in August: Aug 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.  Town Center Park is located at 1850 Walnut St., adjacent to the Sallie Logan Public Library.his year's Sunset Concert Series performers are:
 Aug. 3: The Lewis Creek Band, a country group from Murphysboro;
 Aug. 10: Bruce Zimmerman Band, a blues band from Cape Girardeau;
Aug. 17: SIU Jazz Combo, jazz group and 
 Aug. 24: Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers, a hot jazz and swing band from St. Louis;
Admission is free. Pets are not allowed; glass bottles are also not to be brought into the park, but guests are encouraged to bring a cooler and a lawn chair.
The Murphysboro Youth and Rec Center will grill hot dogs and hamburgers and sell sodas for a nominal fee, Stephens said. Those funds raised will support the Murphysboro Park District and the Youth and Rec center,
