Join SIC in the Magical Land of Narnia Nov. 30 and Dec. 1-2

HARRISBURG, Ill.  (Nov. 14, 2018) - Narnia is coming to Southeastern Illinois College Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. The musical will be directed by Gareth York in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center Theatre.
 
Based on the classic C.S. Lewis Novel The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Narnia starts with Peter (Jordan Richey of Benton), Susan (Kady Lampley of Benton), Lucy (Paige Clore of Norris City), and Edmund (Carter Reed of Harrisburg), as the war has forced them to be sent to the safety of Marbleton Manor. The children find nothing to do but explore, and this leads them to a rather interesting wardrobe. As the children are transported through the wardrobe, they find themselves in Narnia, where the White Witch (Joli Murphy of Springerton) always keeps it winter but never Christmas. That is until Aslan (Braden Cummins of Carrier Mills) comes to fight the White Witch so spring can come once again.
 
Additional lead roles include Alex McRoy of Harrisburg as Mr. Beaver, Meredith Wolf of Harrisburg as Mrs. Beaver, John Suh of Ziegler as Father Christmas and Billy Lewis of Carrier Mills as Mr. Tumnus.
 
“I am pleased to be directing the musical Narnia at Southeastern Illinois College,” said York. “I have really enjoyed the experience of working with this cast while watching them bring this fantasy land to life. This musical will bring out the inner child in all of us. Come climb through the wardrobe and join us in the wonderful land of Narnia.”
 
The show’s stage manager is Aaron McRoy and music director is Cory Garmane. Costumes will be designed by Janet Hart and Gareth York, and lighting designer for the show is Kyle Upchurch. John Hart of Hart’s Music in Harrisburg will provide sound equipment.
 
Reserved seating is $10 for adults and $8 for students, staff and seniors.
 
In addition to the show, on Friday, Nov. 30, a holiday dinner catered by BBQ Barn in Harrisburg will take place at 5:45 p.m. in the theatre lobby.  The cost is $25 per person or $130 for a table of six, and includes tickets to see Narnia immediately following dinner that evening.Seating for the dinner is limited and must be reserved by Monday, Nov. 26.  Money raised will benefit student scholarships and support.
 
Dinner includes berry salad, baked ham, roasted turkey with gravy, au gratin potatoes, green beans almandine, dinner rolls and choice of New York style cheesecake or chocolate delight.
 
There will also be silent auction items up for bid during the dinner and at intermission Friday night only. Silent auction items include barbecue lessons by Jimmy D. Ellis, massages, paint parties, inflatables gift certificate, Cubs autographed baseball, SIU basketball tickets, family photo session, winery suite overnight, home decor and much more.
 
The Friday night holiday dinner, silent auction and Narnia are sponsored by Visionary Sponsor, Banterra and Hope Sponsor, Wells Fargo.
 
Along with the musical, SIC is hosting its annual Breakfast with Santa Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9-11 a.m. in the Harry L. Crisp Student Center Cafeteria. The cost is $5 per person (including adults) and will include a pancake breakfast, a picture with Santa, and lots of fun holiday activities for elementary-aged children. Upon registration for this event, tickets to Narnia can be purchased at a discounted rate of $5 for any showing. Registration is requested by Nov. 27 for Breakfast with Santa.
