National award-winning author, artist and owner of Plush UNLTD, Creative Studio & Co., Tiffany D. Walker, is hosting a summer art program for children ages 8-12.
The program is a two-week curriculum-based event featuring visual and performing art. It will be held from 5-7 p.m. July 17-21 and July 31Aug. 5 on location at the new one-of-a-kind open art studio at 205 S. Marion St. in Carbondale. Cost is $35 per week or $65 for both weeks. A local native with over a decade of graphic and performing art experience, Walker has performed on several stages, including the Nuyorican Poets Café' in New York City and The Apache Cafe in Atlanta. She has also had her paintings displayed and distributed by the United Negro College Fund and has an original acrylic piece in the current "Locality" exhibition at the Carbondale Community Arts Center. The Creative Kids Academy will be a two-part hands-on program. Part One (week one) focuses on visual art and ends with a public art show, called One Vision, in the studio featuring the students work. Part Two (week two) focuses on performing art and ends with a public performing arts showcase, Spoken Words, where students can perform their final poem or monologue. Friday's class of Part Two will also include a visit to the art center. Students who complete either session will be presented with a gift and certificate of completion. Each Monday of both sessions will be open to the public for a $12 admission (plus supplies fee). Registration for those walk-in days ends at noon on the same day. Daily refreshments will be included. Students will have the opportunity to make their work available for purchase.
