It's great to be a kid in southern Illinois. Check out this weekend's activities and you will know what we mean. And remember, the sifamilies.org events calendar includes activities for grown-ups too! Friday looks like it will bring some rain and, the local libraries are a great place to be. In Carbondale, kids can use legos, duplos, recycled materials boxes, foam and other materials to create structures and buildings. The library also has a GIANT jenga game . Free Form Buildings and Games begins at the Carbondale Public LIbrary at 10am and is open to kids of all ages. Story hour begins at the Metropolis Public LIbrary at 11:00. and FREE Family films are being shown at the Anne West Lindsey Public LIbrary in Carterville and at the Marion Carnegie LIbrary are scheduled to begin at 1:00pm. Family movie showings continue in the evening, this time at the Aquatic Zoon in Mt Vernon and Harrisburg . Check out the sifamilies.org calendar for more details. Friday evening, live performances of the ever popular "Sister Act" will be performed at McLeod Theater in Carbondale and the lively "Suessical the Musical" will be performed at SIC in Harrisburg. Both performances will be repeated on Saturday. We are so excited for what Saturday has in store. At the top of our list is "Fire and Ice" presented by Live, Interactive Science of St Louis and being held at the Carbondale Public Library. Discover states of matter with exciting demonstrations & fun experiments. Open to the public, this FREE event begins at 10 am . Science fun continues into the afternoon at the Science Center in Carbondale. Local favorite Free Again Wildlife Rescue will be bringing a special guest, a barn owl, for kids to learn about. Presentation is included with admission, $5/person, children 2 and under are free, TSC members are always free. The fun kicks off at 2:00 pm If you have young children, you probably know about Chase, Skye and Marshall. Take your child's picture with their beloved Paw Patrol characters at a "Meet and Greet" scheduled at a community benefit in DeSoto. The craft sale event is free but ticket must be purchased for the "Paw Patrol Meet and Greet". Tickets begin at $12 for one child, but prices go down when you purchase multiple tickets. For the older kids, consider this weekend's Becoming an Outdoor Family where FREE archery lessons will be provided at the Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge. All equipment is provided and registration is strongly encouraged. This is the last weekend to see a performance of Pinkalicious which begins at 2:00 pm at the McLeod Theater in Carbondale. Tickets ar $14 for adults and $10 for children. Families in the Harrisburg area have two chances this weekend to go to the Harrisburg Park Pool for FREE Sponsored by local businesses, the goal is to promote family fun and togetherness. Saturday's event is scheduled from 4:00 pm- 6:45 pm and Sunday families can swim for free from 1pm- 3pm. Kids can clown around with Camo the Clown in Benton as he entertains and inspires them to explore the wonders of nature with his Outdoor Adventure Show! Camo educates and entertains his audience with colorful stories, props, skits, and even live animals! This program is free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages! It begins at 7:30 pm. Sunday is supposed to be a "day of rest". Slow down the pace and enjoy just being together.How about planning a special Sunday dinner and letting the kids help in the kitchen? A Sunday picnic at one of the region's great family parks can also make the day special. Whatever you choose to do, remember that time together with family, is time worth spent.
