It's hard to believe it is already the third weekend in March. Where did the month go?
This week we welcomed Spring and we can't wait until the warmer weather is here to stay.

The annual Home and Garden Expo will be held at the SIUC Arena in Carbondale. With over 80 exhibitors, free workshops through the day and a kids construction zone, it is a favorite event for many families. On Sunday, the Science Center is sponsoring a Lego Home Building Contest. for kids ages 5-12 years of age. Register at www.sihomeexpo.com. Admission to the Expo is $5 per person,. Individuals bringing in a canned good for the local food pantries will receive a $1 discount. Similar discounts are also given to veterans and SIU students, families and alumni on Saturday.
Over in Harrisburg, children and their families can take their favorite Teddy Bear of stuffed animal to the Teddy Bear Care Fair starting at 9am. Sponsored by the Harrisburg Medical Center, this FREE event runs from 9 am- noon The stuffed animal will receive the best care as a HMC patient and will go through: Registration, Triage, X-Ray, Lab Work, Surgery, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Discharge. Other activites at the Teddy Bear Care Fair include various emergency vehicles for children to see, face painting, craft projects, and healthy snacks. Harrisburg Medical Center will also have giveaways for kids and parents!
Who doesn't love books, and that is why Barnes and Noble's FREE weekly story time. This weekend will bring back many memories for parents as they celebrate the 75th anniversary of Little Golden Book. Kids will get to create their very own Little Golden Book to take home. The story hour begins at 11:00 am.
Ir you child loves legos- Carterville is the place you want to be. The Anne West Library is sponsoring Legos at the library for kids K- 2nd grade. The event runs from 1pm- 3pm.
For the more adventurous, you might consider taking the kids to the Cache River Wetlands Center for the FREE presentation : Fantastic (Reptilian) Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Kids can learn how to care for snakes, lizards and turtles,and more.
Rounding out this weekend's top five is the FREE Youth Carnival in Metropolis sponsored by the Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition. The event includes Grades K-6 are invited. There will be food, games, prizes, two Kindle Fire raffles, and fun for all. Prescription drug drop-off box will also be available to drop off your old prescriptions to keep them out of the wrong hands. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Whether you take advantage of one of these event offerings or decide to just "hang out" together at home... remember it is the time you spend with your kids, that really makes the difference.
