The changing weather forecast makes it hard for everyone to plan for the weekend.
This week's highlights were chosen with the weather in mind. Don't forget to check the www.sifamilies.org Events calendar for even more activities.
Friday starts out with FREE story hours in Metropolis and Marion. Both offer stories and activities. It's a great way for your kids to be exposed to "the classics".
Most parents remember reading Charlotte's Web as a younger child. This beloved book by E.B. White, tells the tale of Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Now your child can experience the magic LIVE this weekend and next in a play at the Market House theater in Paducah. There are performances all three days. Ticket prices are reasonable ($12 for adults and $6 for children). A beautiful play about friendship which will enchant audiences of all ages.
Adult's who love going to the theater can take advantage of John A Logan's production of Bonnie and Clyde-the Musical check our calendar for schedule times during the weekend. A low cost matinee ($2) is being held on Friday at 10:00 am.
Saturday's calendar is full of fun activities. Before the snow is scheduled to come to the region, the annual FREE Kids Fishing Rodeo will be held at Elk's Lodge Pavilion on the Lake of Egypt. Free event for children 12 and under. Registration begins at 8am.
Prizes and activities from 9-11am.
Families who love to shop at the Farmer's Market don't despair! The Carbondale Community Farmer's Market is still holding their Winter's Market inside at Carbondale Community High School from 9 am- noon.
Young kids will love the FREE "Dance" story hour at Barnes and Noble at 11:00 and older kids can build to their hearts content at the FREE Lego Party being held at the First Christian Church in Murphysboro. For those families living near Eldorado, the Eldorado Memorial Library is offering a FREE showing of the film Moana at 2:00 pm
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate with some of the great outdoor opportunities on our calendar. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the forecast is wrong and they can go on as planned. But before going out- make sure these events are not cancelled or rescheduled due to the weather.
